Rare Olive Ridley Sea Turtle Seen Nesting in Florida for the First Time Ever

During Sea Turtle Week 2026, Florida’s Loggerhead Marinelife Center celebrated a remarkable first: a sea turtle named “Tini” was genetically confirmed to be an olive ridley sea turtle, marking the first documented olive ridley nesting in Florida history. Olive ridleys are common in parts of the Pacific and tropical Atlantic but are extremely rare along Florida’s east coast, making Tini’s nesting event an extraordinary discovery for researchers and conservationists.
